About the Book
Based on Dr. Maté’s two decades of experience as a medical doctor and his work with the severely addicted on Vancouver’s skid row, In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts radically re-envisions this much misunderstood field by taking a holistic approach.
In In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts, Dr. Gabor Maté shares first-person accounts, case studies, and cutting-edge research to counter the prevailing notions of addiction as either a genetic disease or an individual moral failure. Maté presents an eloquent case that addiction – all addiction – is in fact a case of human development gone askew.
