Saying “No” is Hard

A Conversation About Boundaries with Meaghan Welfare

About the Video

It can be a challenge to say “no.”

Many of us lack confidence in our ability to articulate our limits and to defend our boundaries. Conversely, we have all felt the sting of judgement or rejection when confronted with someone else’s boundary. Our preferences, values, history, and past experiences inform how we do (or do not ) set boundaries and the ways in which we perceive other people’s boundaries.

In this conversation, Meaghan Welfare and Françoise Mathieu discuss common fears and concerns about setting limits, the distress helping professionals can experience from “imposed” boundaries, and share strategies to set and receive boundaries in a healthy way.

Recorded in January 2021 as part of the Psychological PPE Program.
