Compassion Fatigue Education for Paramedics
About the Video
Post-traumatic stress disorder, once a rarely heard term, seems to be in the news on a nightly basis. Several high profile events have brought the subject of first responder mental health into the spotlight. In 2014, the Paramedic Chiefs of Canada, the Paramedic Association of Canada, and the Paramedic Standard Steering Committee each released reports making recommendations around the issue of paramedic mental health.
In this session, Françoise Mathieu explores the emotional and physical erosion of empathy that can happen over the course of a helping professional’s career.
Recorded in April 2015 for the Ottawa Paramedic Service.
